I think it's time we as hunters and fishers took f&g to task. They need to pull their fucking heads in and remember who they work for.
Fuck this selling us out bullshit that's been going on. Ripping us off with ridicules prices for licences and doing sweet fuck all with it except driving around in new utes. CUNTS. Causing a heap of trouble with cockies IS NOT HELPING US!! Fucking idiots.

Has anyone here actually looked at what this type of hunting actually costs in other parts of the world? Compared bag limits, and compare what research and any added value that happens elsewhere?
I certainly know that I some states in the US, things are far, far worst. Try 2 ducks and day over 2 weekends, total of 8 ducks for the season! Some states are better, but some are worst. Let's not mention deer hunting in the states!
I believe that we don't have to hunt game birds in our own regions. It's possible to take a trip to CSI or Taranaki for a few days. I wish the Pheasant season was longer in North Canterbury, but, it's less than an hours drive to the CSI where I can get a full season and a much bigger bag.
Sometime we need to make the effort ourself to get the most out the situation, regardless of how bad things get.

I am with you Wirehunt sick of these buggers going on about dirty dairying when 98% have all waterways fenced and nutrient budgets in place. I think the sheep and beef have a lot to answer for but there is no mention of them.Quote:

I've got no problem with f&g here. Always been helpful and even lent goose decoys on occasion. $91 for three months hunting and a few hundred ducks is cheap.

Yes, most farming CAN have a poor effect on our waterways, even including cropping. It would be nice if 98% of dairy farm had the waterways fenced, but struggle to see how this is actually policed. Having a tanker driver report not fence areas, only goes as far as the dairy company want it to. Certainly agree that Sheep and beef farms run stock in the river beds, however, low intensity farming produces less of an effect than large scale dairy operations (as in multiple large farms in a catchment, not just one property).
Nutrient budgets do not actually prevent the nutrients entering the soils and waterways, just like paying a carbon tax prevents the release of carbon.

The company we are with are very strict we have "Water inspectors",Shed inspectors,fertiliser inspectors,effluent inspectors just to name a few so we are pretty well watched. It makes me think this Dirty dairying is a Southland problemo?Quote:

I have owned a DS license since I was old enough to hold a shotgun and a fair few trout licenses as well. I resent every dollar I have spent! I've just bought this years license and I've got to say I nearly didn't.
As a dairy farmer I am sick of having the boot stuck in by Fish and Game! They spend all this time blaming farmers for water quality, without ever looking at the pollution that flows in from towns and cities (storm water and in some cases sewrege) . Yet when it comes time to collectively solve the problem via the 'Clean Stream Accord' Fish and Game pull out! Great things have been achieved in recent years and farmers have a far better understanding of the flow on effects of their nutrient decisions, but Fish and Game are not helping!
I'm not convinced they actually want water quality, I think they just want someone convenient to blame for the lack of it AND they are wasting MY license fees doing it!!!!
Those inspectors you list are nothing more than feel good measures for a completly naive and unaware public. Every townie that flushes their toilet or washes their car in the street is helping to pollute our water ways. Outdated farming practices and ideas keep getting taught to our young and future landowners. Councils hand out consents willy nilly to take water or chemically pollute land, all the time using some rough dreamed up guideline that makes any limits sound safe.
The decline in the state of the waterways in my area make me fuckin sick. Where once i would find crawleys trout and eels in amoungst the water weed i now see barren mud bottomed streams, devoid of life and riddled with pockets of slime. As a kid i would catch tadpoles in drains on the farm and i couldnt sleep at night because of the racket the frogs kicked up in the garden. I havnt seen a tadpole for over 20 years now, and im still on the same farm. The frogs have vanished.
Nothings going to change and it never will when there are dollars to be made. Fact.
We had our inspection last year. The Fonterra guy didn't just take my word for it. He walked ALL of our waterways. You are welcome to do the same if you feel the need :)Quote:

Have a look at the lake in the heart of Hamilton...filthy cess pit...surrounded by humans and not a dairy farm for miles. A cull on the ducks there would help.

We do get inspected often and the inspectors do have teeth and you will end up with a $20000 fine from major effluent mishaps and from fonterra if they find issues your milk will not be picked up until the situation is rectified. To me fonterra are more strict than any other agency checking our operation. There are changes in the works surrounding leeching and fert application which will to my eyes stop any dairy in its tracks. You cant expect changes to happen immediately because that would bankrupt an industry
Also have a look at your local community or the ones you drive through to your duck pond, hunting spot etc they most probably are only thriving because of dairying it is by no mean just farmers that benefit. Eg 15-20 years ago before dairying oamaru was fuckn dead half the shops were empty. now its a thriving town with every retail space occupied. The only difference is the dairy boom. And there are still a heap of ducks around. The most in the fuckn country.
Fed farmers is telling its members to refuse access to hunters and fishermen because of the shit some stir so watch who you poke a stick at.

I don't disagree dairy pollutes but try getting onto your council they are the ones allowing water rights and conversions in your catchment its not a farmers responsibility to to conduct research into the affects on waterways. Land owners pay massive rates to the council to do that job. On our 3k dead end road there is about 35-40M dollars worth of well established dairy farms. Can you imagine the rates? And the tax paid! Yet we have a pot hole filled gravel road that we cant get out of if it floods, poor cell service. Poor internet. Oamaru hospital is a joke. Waimate schools are decile 1. I do recall a couple of years back when F&G really started to jump all over the gravel extraction from river beds. Specially the unconsented stuff. So, it not jump the farmers they get into.
We aren't all townies either, I certainly don't live in the city, just a small town in Canterbury where even my wife works for the dairy giant - so thanks all for keeping her employed!
It is ECAN here that issues those consents and, because they were following the guidelines to improve the situation and being fairly strict, the central government put in statutory management to get things moving. The towns and cities have also been doing their part to improve water quality by installing better effluent treatment plants (costing massive amounts of money) and imposing much stricter controls on waste/emissions from industries, forcing quite a few to close.Quote:
