They are much better these days, get the two serve size as I think most blokes would find the single serve a bit small when you are putting big days in. Other cheaper options are Kaweka meals but they weigh a bit more.
Shut up, get out & start pushing!
There's info on here somewhere about a purchasing deal available to forum members. Well worth it
Hungerbuster Meals are not freeze dried. They are meals that are ready-to-eat and packed with chunks of REAL food. Hungerbuster food is precooked and extremely easy to prepare.
Freeze dried meals require re-hydration with water and a longer preparation time compared to Hungerbuster meals. Having nutritious food that can be eaten instantly without complicated preparation is a major bonus in emergency situations.
All of the Hungerbuster range has a minimum 24 month shelf life from the date of production, subject to being stored in a stable environment, not exceeding 20 degrees C.

THIS IS MY RIFLE, WITHOUT MY RIFLE I AM NOTHING
Back country is pretty good but it would never be the only food I take.
"Hunting and fishing" fucking over licenced firearms owners since ages ago.
308Win One chambering to rule them all.
Cheers Guys I might give them a go and bring some real food just in case I don't like it
I only get them for long trips (+5 days) to keep weight down because they dont taste very nice to me. If I do bring them I'm hoping I shoot something before I run out of good food. Would rather carry the extra weight and have a nice feed. Expensive too. I find the serving sizes a pain, one serve is too small, two serves are a bit big. So usually I bring a single serve with something to bulk it out. Bear in mind there are light weight food options that aren't freeze dry. Noodles, soup in a cup, pasta, jerky off the top of my head.

Yeah nah bro
Rule 4: Identify your target beyond all doubt.
Back country cuisine are available on here via lockee i think
I remember when we use to take packs of plain noodles along with beef stock and chicken stock. For desert we would boil up rice and add milk powder and sugar
You can make a pretty good meal up with rice/couscous/pasta, dried spud, dried peas/corn/veges, add a meat like bacon, salami, canned tuna/salmon/chicken.
Freeze dried meal are a good concept, but sh*t eating. I can't stand them. Always carry one as back up but that's about it.
I'm drawn to the mountains and the bush, it's where life is clear, where the world makes the most sense.
I eat Back country cuisine meal for 2, get 3 days out of one pack by adding home made veni jerky or salami, dehy spud flakes, onion flakes, peas and carrots and some spices.
It has been a very long time since I ate it but the freeze dried meals were good if prepared properly. Soak the contents in water for a couple of hours then heat, make it a top priority to get it soaking when you hit camp. If you expect to pour hot water into the bag and leave it a few minutes then expect something like semi soggy cardboard.
Other than that you can dehydrate your own food. There are plenty of other options too. Favourite desert is rice pudding made with custard powder, milk powder and dried apricots.
