I only get them for long trips (+5 days) to keep weight down because they dont taste very nice to me. If I do bring them I'm hoping I shoot something before I run out of good food. Would rather carry the extra weight and have a nice feed. Expensive too. I find the serving sizes a pain, one serve is too small, two serves are a bit big. So usually I bring a single serve with something to bulk it out. Bear in mind there are light weight food options that aren't freeze dry. Noodles, soup in a cup, pasta, jerky off the top of my head.
