    It has been a very long time since I ate it but the freeze dried meals were good if prepared properly. Soak the contents in water for a couple of hours then heat, make it a top priority to get it soaking when you hit camp. If you expect to pour hot water into the bag and leave it a few minutes then expect something like semi soggy cardboard.

    Other than that you can dehydrate your own food. There are plenty of other options too. Favourite desert is rice pudding made with custard powder, milk powder and dried apricots.
