A well made pair of gaiters usually doesnt need a stirrup under your boots. Problem is that most of the people that use gaiters are either looking for a cheaper price, or dont have the time to wait for a custom pair of gaiters to be made. Its like most consumables, you pay for that you get. There are some excellent gaiters out there, Mountain High would be close to the top. But gaiters aren't indestructible, gaiters dont last for the next 20 years, you cant have lightweight and hardwearing at the same time, no matter how well they are made they will not be waterproof - water will eventually get in around the bottom, or come in over the top. Shop local, with the guys that make and use them, dont expect the impossible, and dont expect cheap. Twin Needle, Mountain High, Cactus are the sort of manufacturers that you need to look at.
