My concern with this council is it will most likely have the same outspoken people in the hunting and shooting circles we hear about all the time, that will seek positions on the council. Some of them, imo, are far to biased and extreme to look at things reasonably. They cant see the forest for the trees and honestly have no genuine knowlege of herd management (But think or claim they have).
Also areas that have no issues with the likes of waro or animal numbers will be addressed and fucked up the same as somewhere that does have problems, because of lazy logistical efforts (West Coast for example.....maybe?)
Parts of NZ may not be represented properly and will suffer at the hands of idiots with no clue. Bound to happen, as it does now!!
Heli Hunting and 1080 I believe are major issues with this council. These 2 issues are very hot topics.
Dare I say it, but the fact they are hot topics and are topics the council promises to address, they in turn, easily gain support from the iggnorant and stupid among us, that want or think they will eventually get an animal in every clearing.
I also fear it will turn into something like F&G and will be user pays for little or no benefit. I assume most council members will be avid hunters and privy to information that they may eventually abuse for themselves.
The concept is sound but like any other govt initiative, I fear it will become corrupt in no time.
In saying all that, there are really genuine people out there who the council and outdoorsman would really benefit from, but they would never seek a position as they go quietly about their lives.
I know a member of this forum who has worked tirelessly behind the scenes for the Wakatipu Whitetail herd. He has had no recognition and worked at it at his own cost, for a few years. People like him, I believe, are genuine candidates if this council was ever to work for us, as hunters.
