Goat hunting North Auckland, Waikato, Coromandel?

Hi everyone, I recently got the DOC permits for these hunting areas as was wondering if anyone has had much success in these area's or are the numbers really low as they state on their website? I've recently bought a .223 and I'm keen to give it a try on some goats in the next few months. If anyone has a farm, or knows a friendly farmer I'm happy to provide transport down there for a shoot. I'm sensible and safe too!! Cheers

Have you got specific 2 week block permits for certain blocks or did you print off the open permit online

I can suggest a good block in near Whanganui if you're willing to go for a road trip.

DOC GIS , have a look at the area you intend to hunt, scroll down the left hand side tool bar and find open hunting permit areas

There are no open hunting permit areas in North Auckland, only 1 in south Auckland

I was in Warkworth with no sign seen last week. I probably walked past a million goats though..

You should have dropped in on your way back.

Plenty of spots for shooting goats up here mate. I've seen quite a lot around the logging skid sites (pigs too), not sure on if you can walk in through and shoot, be good to get in contact with the ops.

Also go through state highway 16 if traffics bad down SH1.

No, you just cant walk in and shoot
Matariki does winter pig hunting permits, all other forests are privately owned

As Moonhunt said, forests in the area are all private/company owned. you would be better off on farmland anyway.
I suggest you get out and do some door knocking.
You may also have problems if you show up with the AR15 you were talking about in the other thread, as many lifestylers and farmers will be put off until they can be sure your not trigger happy.
