    Goats in the Coromandel

Anyone hunted the Coromandel for goats lately. Never hunted that area but staying over that way during Christmas, so thinking about trying to find somewhere to take the kids for a stalk.

There were some up Moehau way, think DOC wiped them out. PM Spook, he might a suggestion or two.
He nui to ngaromanga, he iti to putanga.

You depart with mighty boasts, but you come back having done little.
Sounds like a typical hunting trip !

Nothing much left. Whitianga branch of DOC (contact via Thames DOC) informed me recently that they had a big cull about 2 months ago. From my enquiries, it appears many farmers are mustering and selling them for extra coin. This appears to be the case right through the country. A very few in the Northern Kaimais but terrain can be challenging.

There always seems to be a few left after the culls, specially in the tighter spots around Coroglen/Tapu rd and Rangihau rd

Plenty of turkeys to stalk if the goats are scarce

Culled that area in the 70's ( must be getting old) and even back then numbers were low in the bush. Some areas we got 4-5 a week with dogs. There were always a few more on private land but they were out of bounds.
