Thread: Goats - Marlborough/ Murchison / Nelson ?

I’m back in NZ in October and thought I’d give my new rifle a bit of a shakedown trip before a planned big effort on Deer over summer .
Its been years since I shot Goats and was wondering if anyone can give a bit of advice on areas holding reasonable numbers of Goats .
Im not after someone’s special spot , just broad info on areas to study up on .
Anywhere in the top of the South is fine and Im planning on spending 4 or 5 days away so Im not really interested in easy access ( day hunt ) , a bit of a walk in is actually what Im chasing , and will fly camp .
Years ago we used to shoot Goats up near Murchison ( Six Mile area ) anyone know if there is still Goats in numbers there ?
Any info would be greatly appreciated, I just dont want to get to an area and find DOC has cleaned them up or something .

Haven’t been there in a while but saw a few goats on the Maungatapu Track between Matai Valley and Pelorus

Heard there was a huge mob up MT Murchison, be worth a look. Six mile doesnt have that many anymore but theres always one or two up high
