Last time I was camped up the waipakahi, 12 at nite a couple of dudes turn up and start spotlighting down on the river flats. Not far from where that poor girl was shot cleaning her teeth. They were shooting on doc land during a pubic holiday. Go figure. Nothing wrong with a few beers mind u. Hunter 308. U should have stayed here and hunted. It's a long way to drive, just to give up and come home. Don't let wankers spoil your weekend.
I hunted till late afternoon @sakokid I didn't just stop and go home all up I did 9 hours of hunting I had it planned to just hunt for one day then come home and spend today with the other half. I hunted both sides of the road I just decided to hunt the forestry side of the road first while it was early morning and the wind was in my face entering the bush from the doc and forestry boundary and worked my way through from the edge of the pine block back to the road trying to keep that wind in my face, when that chopper started spraying I was 100 meters into the bush from the pines. will go back again may look at going to Te Iringa and hunt up there or pay the yellow hut track a visit.

So when is the next episode of dundee hunts the ruahines
I may be going in again on labour weekend as I did promise to take the other half camping that weekend so we are deciding between going to matata to go fishing at the beach or up to clements for another hunt

I take your point Spook. Rules seem to be made to be broken by some sections of society, even if they are of the Unwritten type.

If DoC or council were ever to put up signs of guidelines for consideration to others they may as well mark the 50 metre and 100 metre distances and take more care of the placement of such signs to consider the safe firing zone behind them.
Which is worse, ignorance or apathy...I don't know and don't care.

@Pengy, when I was out riding yesterday I came across this...

Smack in the middle of the track and the track curves around behind it putting anyone at risk who was walking on the track...behind it, to the right are the bullet gouges from where they missed...not a good photo as my nag was running in circles under me.

Signs and markers would still get ignored and probable get used for target practise too, I remember my first time up clements and my one and only time going up Te Iringa I vividly recall one of the guys I was hunting with coming out of the shithouse at the campsite at the track start saying "I have one concern, there is a bullet hole in the middle of the shithouse door and it is at eye level". Not even shithouses are safe from being shot at up there by people with itchy trigger fingers.

Good on you hunter three o eight, give the fish a miss, and hunt the deer. I am sure the good lady would enjoy the time in the bush as long as the weather is ok.

My intention was to fish early to late evening get some shut eye then fish early morning then bugger off home again so I don't have to put up with silly twats getting tangled up in my line.
