Thread: A good morning sortie

I was excited about getting out to collect another red deer for the fridge for a number of reasons.
A freind had just made me a beautiful knife and I was keen to get blood on it. I had done a fresh load of 143 Hammers for the saum and a freind was in town for a catch up.
It was a hurried rush out the door as I knew the morning would be quickly greeting us at this time of year. We were almost at the park up spot when 3 reds scarppered off the road on first light but they were certainly not stopping for me to get a bead on. I didn't want to take a rushed on the hoof shot as I didn't want to spook anything that could be in the folds of the terrain to come.
Off we set with the dog fully pumped after the close encounter. A few harsh words to settle her down and we made our way to the first look out where I normally spot something. This time there was nothing although the dog was extremely restless and winding back up hill. After 10 minutes we decided to move further around the hill to investigate what the mut was on about. There's one! Sure enough the dog was not telling lies. A quick shot off the rock that was in front of me saw the hind staggering down the hill clearly hit hard! A follow up shot as I realized my scope was dialed low from the previous wasn't probably needed but I wasn't sure how hard she was hit and didn't want her hoofing it out of site

The exit holes and internal damage on the animal from the 277 yard shots was impressive and the blood trail was insane.
Nice, more meat and an easy carry out.
