Hi Team
Something of a better late than never story.
So took last Friday off and went into the Kaimanawas with my eldest (20yrs) for 3 nights. Early start (4.30am) from Tauranga saw us at our camp and set up by 11am. Walked in via the Te Iringa track and camped up high.
Cruised out after lunch and had a couple of stags going down a spur. Stalked way down and put them in a couple of calls this resulted in a small stag crossing the stream and walking into 15m and turning broadside for a look at us. The boy did not make a mistake and bagged his first deer. To say I was stoked would he a massive understatement. The term exhilarating was mentioned, big smiles all round.
The next day I passed up another small stag that walked in thinking I would geta chance at a better one, however I didn't. But still had another couple of near encounters without a result.
All in all a great trip where we left the stags going hard out, was great to hear and look forward to next year.
