Yeah our party were notified the other week that we got Lower Greenstone in April. We're frothing pretty hard. First time hunting that area for me and first time chasing fallow. Good luck to the rest of you.
Missed out again. Got it on my first application five years ago and haven't got it since. Shame, one of my all time favorite places to hunt.
Bloody hell, I still haven't heard one way or the other...
Gave up hunting the Lower Caples after DOC put in hut wardens and the road went around the head of the lake, used to see one or two trampers a week but once the warden went in and the gun racks taken out the number of trampers increased.Quote:

We were in Steel creek in the winter, the deer were living no more than a 100 to 150 metres from the bush edge. We hunted too high before we realised where they were. Straight opposite of the hut, over the creek, is a thicket, they're living in there. The runt pads were higher, just below the bluffs and steeper bits, so more than likely the stags will be there.Quote:

As a north islander and never have been there or even heard about it until i saw it on the NZ hunter show, is it ballot for just the Fallow rut? Or is all year around?
Ballot for April-May. Then there is a winter period June to end Sept. No hunting for the rest of the year due to being a highway for tramping
