If you have a going pig dog , then it’s up to the GPS if it wants to go or not …walk it in on a few pigs.

It will either be keen or not …but I expect you know this!

So yes I’ve seen a GPS bail but not hold,

That was one dog ,so I have no idea what yours will do.

Would I pig hunt with a GPS ..sure as above he’s keen as …so if it’s keen and / or can stop a pig have at it!

but do I want my duck / pheasant / whatever dog keen on hunting pigs whilst I’m deer stalking or birding …that’s your call and down to your training.

Edit to add : I believe Ken Cuthbertson “ two dogs and a rifle “ used a “ bird dog” to deadly effect for a number of years.

Absolutely no reason they won't do it and do it well. Entirely up to the dog and the person training it.ive seen corgies, foxies, border terriers, rotties, bullies, great Danes, labs galore sheep n cattle dogs of all shapes n sizes all used on pigs. It's not the size of the dog in the hunt.its the size of the hunt in the dog that matters. I KNOW I could easily get poppy to be pig dog half gwp quarter lab collie. But not going to do it.

Random off topic post, but somehow this reminded me of an incident many years back where a pig hunter showed up here with a Doberman he'd rescued from the pound. Wecaught a pig in a cave and the doberman showed no interest at all. Until the hunter crawled in to grab the pig. At which point said dog raced in and grabbed him by the arse cheek. Was some squealing going on!
Never did see that dog again.

one of the problems with dogs like GSP and the same goes for Weimaraner vizla doberman - they are to bloody intelligent -pig dogs especially holders one needs a fair bit of boof head -some of these dogs one good bunt from a boar and they work out pretty damn fast not to go back for more - some will put up a fight but most no

and that is WHY a finder bailer is worth far more than a boofheaded holder...... they seldom get hit/hurt and keep pig in place till you can shoot it.

true but have not seen many GSP etc work well on pigs even bailing - exceptions sure - but then Mickey Duck - me bush hunter not pig hunter - so whatever works I guess - we used to use my mates mothers pure bred boxer - loved pigs -

I have to ask. Whose arse cheek did the dog grab?
Read it twice and I can’t decide.
