    Guide/semi guided hunt

A friend and I have been waiting on our visitors firearms license to be approved. We haven't heard anything and still want to go hunting 4/14-4/28. Are there options to hire someone to show us around and hunt tahr and chamois? What would the cost be? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you.

I am willing to help with an elk or mule deer hunt in Montana, U.S.A.

Look on the net, there's quiet a few outfitters in the South Island that would take you out on the hills.

Ive had this issue with a few people I know coming too NZ. The FLA are struggling to get permits done in time. Both lots got their permits a few days before they were due to fly out. If you havnt heard anything negative yet, its likely they will still arrive. Dont be scared to give them a ring either.

The prices are Staggering! Im not saying that's wrong. Its just Id imagine for many overseas hunters, as it is for many NZ hunters, a professional guiding company is out of reach.

Theres tahr down our way,but you'd need to be a mountain goat to find a good bull tahr in April.November is the prime time for tahr, they come down within shooting range in the late afternoons to eat the spring growth.

The firearms license came through with 3 days to spare! We are going to be hunting tahr until the 23rd but aren't sure what to do for our last few days? Will will be in Methven on the 23rd, hopefully looking for a taxidermy shop to boil a few skulls. Who do you reccomend? Any ideas on the last 3-4 days of the trip? Thank you for your help.

Theres no taxidermists in Methven, but there are 3 good ones in the ChCh area - Tyrone Southward in Dunsandel, Andrew Holt @ Big Game Taxidermy, and Barry @ High Country Taxidermy.

@MontanaHunter are you looking for another hunt option for those 3/4 days at the end or just general stuff to do? Plenty of 1 or 2 night options for a chamois in Arthur's pass, also some good fresh water fishing opportunities in the canterbury region. Could always drive up the coast to kaikoura and do a fishing charter and catch some tasty cod and crayfish ,a whale watching trip or the zip line tour if that interests you. Plenty of red deer hunting for smaller stags up there too. Could help give you some spots to checkout if needed. Good luck 👍
