Just be aware you're starting a popcorn thread here.

Besides no one breeding their dogs is going to say its a bad bloodline. First figure out if you want a backyard job or a pedigree, the price "should" be fairly different but some back door jobs seem to ask a hell of a lot.
Personally I'd recommend a pedigree because you know you're getting a sound line (as long as you do some pre work on looking up its pedigree) and a healthy animal. Yes there are exceptions as I'm sure some will point out but more often than not the scoring and breeding of pedigree's is with the best stock.

Breed - I got hung up on it at one point and went from one certainty to another and ended up getting the breed I originally had in the "no chance bin". Now she's 5 months old and has already retrieved 8 ducks her opening weekend and comes deer hunting with me every weekend and has the best personality of any dog we've owned. The missus and I love her to bits as does everyone else who meets her. All gundog breeds are good its just personal preference. I dont like to speak in certainties but trust thats the truth.

Breeding and breed will have an effect to an extent for sure, but the biggest thing is the way you train it. That'll dictate how good or poor a dog turns out in my opinon.

    My 2 cents
