You will get a hundred different answers from a hundred different shooters about this.
I have used Hoppes No.9 for years, and recently read about Kroil on a US forum, and also discovered C4 carbon remover.
So...bought the Kroil (thanks Delta Mike), and it is all it's said to be.
I dry patch out a dirty barrel just to get rid of unburnt powder, etc.
If I think it's needed (usually every few weeks) I patch through with C4 and let it sit for 20 - 30 minutes.
Then a Hoppes No.9 treatment (maybe 3 or 4 patches through the bore).
Then dry patch out a couple more times and use Kroil for a final patch before putting the rifle away. Whip a dry patch through before shooting again though.
Kroil is said to be able to sneak through a tiny gap of a five millionth of an inch (how do I write that? 0.000005" I think it is).
Yeah, don't get it anywhere near your scope! It will sneak in past the seals for sure.
Anyway, Kroil is quite thin and if you just leave a slight layer in the bore it's not going to hydraulic as much as a thicker oil might.
I'm fussy with my bore as it's my benchrest rifle.
I think you are doing OK, but not sure about Ed's Red now. I think the modern stuff beats it (C4 and Kroil).
