    Guns on a plane?

    Hey guys
Me and a mate are looking at flying down to Queenstown from Auckland for a weeks hunting to celebrate leaving the shit hole
some call education .Being tight students we are looking at those $55 jetstar flights. Do they allow you to take a gun?, obviously not in carry on luggage but as a extra cost or what ever. Cheers

yep just put it in a hard case and on as normal baggage, they appreciate a padlock also. $10-20 extra on jetstar i think.

FYI jetstar is good in the way that if you buy say 20kg luggage you can have as many bags as you want making up that 20kg. So you can take a pack as well as a gun case.
Air New zealand only allows the one bag.

AirNZ you have to purchase two check in bags and prove that your ammo is in one and gun in the other

should be able to get an el cheapo hard case for $70ish.

Other option is to post it down to a mate before hand.

Yeah Air new zealand tend to do funny things these days.

About a year ago they bought in a levy for taking guns overseas. It cost $150 extra each way to australia, effectively doubling the cost of flying. Me and a mate ended up taping our two gun cases together which made it a bit cheaper

Fortunately there was such an up roar and so many complaints that they soon canned that idea and refunded us after a few weeks.

Just use the hardcase you have sitting there, I don't need it for a while (but I will be claiming it back at some stage).
You should be able to fit 2 rifles in it, so maybe your mates rifle too, leaves more money for beer.

For Two 16 and 17 year olds beers are the least of out worries. More money for lemonade and orange juice( mixing drinks coz were bad asses)

Scar him for life you think? The boys down there might stick him on a spit and roost him.
Might be better off plying Spook with alcohol and using his bus for a weekend while they sort out the permit system.
I've never been up Thompsons Track and have often looked at the faces above the kaimai rail tunnel and wondered what the hunting was like there.

@Gibo & @Barefoot what are these 'permits' you speak of for Minginui?.....thought it was only Ureweras that where off limits....Minginui is in the Whirinaki forest....yes?
