If your firearm has a half cock feel free to use it. But don't try and convince me this bolt half closed bullshit is a half cock. It is not.
Your M70 is a cock on open action. It's fully cocked as soon as you open the action. What your using is the machining tolerance in the transition point where the firing pin sear starts to rest on the trigger sear rather than the bolt body. It was never designed to be used this way and is a quirk of the design not a feature. A lot of rifles allow the firing pin sear to be released and the bolt to close by pulling the trigger in this position, the firing pin may or may not have enough force to fire the cartridge depending on how soft the primer is and how much friction there is to the bolt handle falling.
To the poster above that doesn't trust safeties because they are badly designed. The "half-cock" isn't designed at all... Don't trust either of them, trigger and muzzle discipline #1.
I'm not an expert on these matters however I'm certain that my M70 is cocked on closing the bolt. (late model CRF)
I have an older Mossberg 800 which is cocked on opening so am aware of the difference, as to your reference to the sears I'll have to take you at your word.
