    I prefer the bolt open, and my hand in the way of the bolt closing, (not all rifles are suitable to carry this way)
    I reckon this is safer than the other ways, but i am pretty cautious.
    I agree - when I was doing bush hunting every fine day working I always carried my rifle on half cock and watched where my hand was - if one was not ready to shoot very quickly then one would have seen a lot of deer disappearing - I despair seeing hunters carrying rifle on sling they will miss out all to often in bush country - when I had my semi auto 308 well had no choice but carry it on safety -no deer was going to stick around while one cocked that - if bush hunting carry rifle like ya mean to use it
