    Hanging to hunt NZ

    Hey fella's,

I want to try and come over from AUS to have a hunt, where would be the best places to head to and what do I need to look out for.

Will be bringing my bow and more then likely one of my bangers, I love hunting goats, deer and with a bit of luck, would like to try and get on a bull with the bow.

As I don't know anyone over there, is it possible to hunt public land at all, would I need to organize permits or anything.

    Thanks in advance guys.

Public land is a piece of cake to hunt. You need to get a permit (free) from the Department of Conservation. You usually need to give your firearms licence number though, so you would need to check with them what they require for foreigners.
Getting a bull with a bow might be hard as they are not that common in NZ, mostly likely on private land. I would head to the south island for hunting. Kaikoura has plenty of goats and a few deer and chamois thrown in. Goats alos on the west coast and central otago. Both places also have deer. Wild bull are mainly in the north island.

Open hunting areas you don't need a FAL.

When are you planning on coming over, and for how long? Planning on getting a vehicle and driving from place to place, or what?

I could probably get you onto some goats for a day trip or an overnighter if you're starting in Auckland.

Cheers guys, was thinking of bringing my VZ24 Mauser in 7x64 Brenneke over just in case I have trouble getting in close with the bow.
The hunting style over there should not differ to much from the VIC high country where I do most of my hunting.

all of it is big hills and lots of walking. I have always wanted to come over for a trip, you guys are super lucky over there!

7x 64 is not the most common cartridge here, you will struggle to find spare rounds if you don't being enough of yours.

depending where I go I will make sure the closest shop has some. I work for a distributer over here so it may just be a matter of arranging a pick up if I post.
