    The Harkness

I have 4 day weekend coming up and would like to to take the rifle for a walk to somewhere I havnt been before. I would like to get out on the tops but with potential high temps and lack of water for the pooch that's never a good idea so was thinking of the harkness.

Assume the best way is from Poronui, out to boyds then tussock hut?

Has anybody gone through up over Otorehinaiti saddle and dropped into Otorehinaiti river or vise versa or is it a cluster?

    Thanks in advance.

Go up the Otorehinaiti river & up to the biv, it's super easy to follow & plenty of deer in there

Search youtube.... "oamaru - otorehinaiti bivvy - mangatainoka heads walkabout" by "Hunting for Adventure" 1 year ago.
It was a magnificent effort and very informative. He took any viewers along with him. You will be impressed.

Take a tent or fly, the biv's "bed" isn't that comfortable

It's a magic spot, am heading back into Tussock for a week at the beginning of Feb.

This map was from a study that DOC did counting deer scat on the ground to determine population densities........ West / South West of Otore biv was the highest in the park @ the time.
Lots of skinny deer when i went through there in summer a couple of years ago.

Is there any context around the survey? Makes it looks like a lot of ground with zero deer.

This is the link to check out, they obviously didn't do the whole park - Not sure how they decided where to look?
