Going to do it again this years end, and possibly the Upper Te Hoe.
I remember being unprepared for the Matuk slog as school boys and getting to the junction sign and it saying another two hours to either hut. God it rained all week in there and we were drowned rats.
My old man shot 28 deer in one day in there, all as skinny and as small as goats he told me.

That would have been quite a few years ago that he did that though?

It was a great spot in the 70's shot plenty of deer in there, haven't been in there since the 90's.

Last time I was in there there was nothing going on at all and I wouldn’t be bothered at all with the place, a few pigs mooch around near the pine edges each winter but since the 1080 drops over the last few years even they’re scarce.
Hoping to do a few decent walks this year as want to do some of the bigger South Island walks next year and want to be in the groove.
