Nice, I like the look of a good fallow head.
I am not sure why but I have never been one to collect antlers. Perhaps it comes from having had so many laying around the shed from farming reds and from having seen too many fucked up heads with more points than a spastic compass.
It takes 43 muscle's to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger pull.
What more do we need? If we are above ground and breathing the rest is up to us!
Rule 1: Treat every firearm as loaded
Rule 2: Always point firearms in a safe direction
Rule 3: Load a firearm only when ready to fire
Rule 4: Identify your target beyond all doubt
Rule 5: Check your firing zone
Rule 6: Store firearms and ammunition safely
Rule 7: Avoid alcohol and drugs when handling firearms
They are still pretty good heads would be happy with them alright.
What sort of length are they BC? Would love to come check them out in the flesh, bloody hard to get an idea of fallow heads through photos.
Something about fallow antlers, I just love! I have always loved palmations. I have yet to get a decent fallow deer, though i stayed in Dunedin for 6 years and hunted the Blue-mountains, but hopefully in Nelson where i live now I can get on a few of them.
@Stickbow, this is a great time to get them. They are now in their "boys groups" so there is a good chance you will see several bucks together. You just need to suss where they are. They will be in good cover that is close to grass. These 2 were in a group of 4. They came out of thick scrub right on dark and onto very good grass, so you need some patience and a good 'scope. Interestingly, they seemed just as interested in sparring and playing as they were eating. But they had all night for feeding.
Also, if undisturbed they will stay in the same spot and feed in the same area for a long time, so long as there is enough tucker.
Yea I was planning on going into Cobb Damn for a shoot but was unaware of the area having been 1080'd.
Battle for the birds mate.
It is on the list now for deer repellant next time....hopefully it is effective....the horse has bolted already.
