You might have the DOC Cameron hut mixed up with the nearby helisika Mt Cameron private block, which is fly in only.

I’ve been into the private block once a few years ago during the roar and we didn’t have a lot of luck with the stags. Eye wateringly expensive to fly into these days and the hut was very marginal back then, and looks to be fully derelict now. Good luck

Couple of mates gave that fly in block a crack a few roars ago. Utterly disappointed was their words. Said they were getting buzzed by the chopper etc. No deer to show for thier expensive trip.
Cursed be the ground for our sake. Both thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for us. For out of the ground we were taken, for the dust we are... and to the dust we shall return.

Nope. I got a permit from them years ago. Must have been 08-09. Gave it to 7mmsaum and they walked in and shot a stag from memory

I’m surprised helisika would allow someone to walk into one of their blocks, they don’t make any money unless a whirlybird is involved. Unless they stung you a bit for the permit

There's DOC land up there too that's covered by a Kaweka FP permit
