Helicopter hunting ...

Myself and a couple mates spent Friday night and Saturday morning this weekend up in north canty for a hunt (my first deer hunt) and were disturbed by a helicopter culling. Now I don't know if a helicopter banging about all morning would have much effect on seeing more or less game etc but it was pretty annoying..

We saw good sign everywhere and had a good time in general but gutted when you spend the time and effort walking in to get buzzed like that, not to mention watching them fly off after 3 trips with 10+ kills :pissed off:

I wanna go back in there again but not if it's getting smashed by helicopters, do people on here think that the helicopter would of made much difference to our chances? Or am I just being a bit pedantic, I know a lot of hunters are largely opposed to this type of hunting.. Keen for some opinions

Sounds like waro. Helihunting is something different. It is a bit annoying but they will never get them all, just stick to the bush

lower numbers will of course make hunting bit harder but there are obviously good numbers there or it wouldn't be profitable to run the machine.
Concentrate on scrubbey guts and slips that run down into the bush.
IE Close to cover, they wise up fairly smartly or as Perazzi said go bush.

Dint think it was worth them doing it any longer ?? Id heard wild venison wasn't salable over seas now ?
It is annoying if you've slogged yr guts out to get to a spot to have a machine go over your and even more if they are shooting.

Don't even use your scope to check them out...if I was in a whirly bird and seen someone up to no good on the ground, it would be their next of kin I would be discussing what they may have been up too.

Way too many people point their firearms at other people and aircraft to check them out and there is no way of knowing what state of safety their firearm is in.

Agree 100% about the second part, but in my mind that does not justify someone in the heli firing at them (which is what your first post insinuated).

Talking to a couple other hunters in a different area on the way out about the heli issue said the same thing... They thought that the heli guys would be lucky to make maybe $200 a deer, perhaps is why they're taking so many...

And no we were just using the binos to check the heli out, left the rifle sitting next to me ;) But there may have been a middle finger salute thrown in the general direction of the flying machine...

I have to hunt some of the most heavily hunted valleys in Nz. They would see 2 or 3 helicopter runs on a good day. Still plenty of animals for me.
