    Helicopter pilot gratuity

    Hey guys, headed down there in May from the US. Many of you have given me some great information to help plan my trip.
    For those of you who have hired a helicopter to drop you off, what is the standard gratuity/tip for your pilot? 10-15%?

    None. They're paid by the hour. We don't tip in NZ.

    If you want to tip then feel free but it isn't part of our "culture" unlike it is in America.

    Having good manners, please, thankyou and a smile with a positive attitude go along way as it should anywhere in the world.

    tipping is optional not mandatory. after you have dined out in nz you will understand why. the food is small and expensive and the service is usually c..p

    Well, that counts me out for travelling to the US - lost my tip to a date with the surgeon.

    Enjoy a short respite from a flawed system whilst you are travelling in New Zealand.
    Tipping is not expected for any services provided here.
    Insistent foreigners makes things unnecessarily awkward in my experience.
    Enjoy the little differences in custom.

    @7mmwsm nope. It will only be an excuse for employers to not raise wages. Dont go there. Way to many assholes out there that will do just that

    Nah, from experience in the last few weeks, lots are not interested in the US either, and still expect 15 % ……

    In the very rare e ent that you encounter someone that asks for a tip while you are in NZ then tell them to be kind to their mother.

    Save your 10-15% and spend it in some of the smaller towns you travel through, enjoy the country have a great time. If you are doing DIY hunts on doc land hope you have a lot of success.
