Ok, bought this a while ago.thought I'd try it out in the paddock. Package has one collapsible hoop, the bivy and a packet of pegs. Hoop in sleeve is easy. From there not so obvious. No way to enter, like, no opening flap at all. What am I supposed to do, lift an edge and crawl in?

Use a tree, sticks, poles, rifle, etc to set up the front opening. Can be set up lower, wider as required.

Yep, find a stick or tie to a tree. I've also made a lightweight 3 piece pole for in the tussock where there's no trees.

Yes and I understand why. Fortunately I could back the wagon right up to it. Its now on a hook in a chiller for the night. As a cook I'm partial to some meat cooked on the bone.not so much as I'd want to carry a whole one. I was thinking of the 70s-80s when tough blokes were making their way carrying whole (field dressed) carcasses out for the booming venison market. Bet they hurt now...Quote:

I've done the back skin shoulder straps a couple of times. It's quite a comfortable carry. Just make sure you cut right up to back of head on smaller animals so the straps are long enough.Quote:

the meat sure stays clean when broken down and put into old pillow cases or cheese cloth.
If you're really good you can also remove the pelvis and leave each leg linked together by the skin over the rump. Have to be careful with knife though.
yeah thats too easy...some of us can do entire animal leaving meat on skin and just the bones out onto ground other than leg bones...makes a really clean job of it and pelvis,ribs n spine stay behind
Works a treat but you end up with a fair amount of blood on you unless you have plenty of time to let the meat set ,and I reakon your body heat taints the meat a little if it’s a long haul.Quote:

I did develop a crook lower back twenty years ago, then got into 9 months of 'landscaping work' which is nothing more than digging and wheelbarrowing - and my crook back disappeared and has never come back.

Yes, excellent, I was sitting looking at it drinking my morning coffee thinking of doing something similar. I have to say, on clear 10deg nights the light breeze flowing thru the bivy was very pleasant. In a wet windy night I'd be finding somewhere a little more sheltered.
Anyway, here's a pic of some of the meat about to be butchered yesterday morning. Took me most of the day and mincing the trimmings up this morning. About 48-50kg of prime venison now in the freezer. Would have been nice to age it more on the hook but lacking that facility I will be relying on tried-n-true fridge aging of the larger cuts prior to cooking. Yum!

Forgot to add that this is not an original Huntech Bivy as they weren’t available when I was wanting one. It is a knock off North Ridge but same dimensions etc

Cool - that looks pretty neat. Thanks for taking the time to set it up and take some photos! My bivy is much lower to the ground - I've been thinking of sewing on some more tabs on the front edge to make setting up the front "fly" easier - might give some more options.
thats clever..you would definately have to be a bit more wind direction savy though.
one thing Ive found with mine...unlike photos RUMPY put up,I find the tighter I can have the top the better...sure sheds water better anyway.
its awesome near vechille with a camp stretcher to sleep on,heaps of room for me and the dog. Ive taken it up to bush line a few times too...slept in in while away on course with landsar too..take matress from in accomidation and set up over by a fence so my snoring doesnt keep everyone else awake,I sleep like a log with 4" thick foam squab to smooth out the ground LOL.
Probably not very clear in photos but my Bivy has 2 adjustable straps so you adjust the width I.e make it higher & narrower or wider & lower. Not sure if the Huntech has that?
Mine has the original webbing strap beside the original pole and just a piece of cord beside the added pole
yeah it has it...never thought about it like that before though...good thinking batman.
