There exists a consensus 1080 does the job, albeit you have to keep dropping tons and tons of it, forever. But it is a cruel death and does not always kill. Deliberate infliction of animal suffering is what we are talking about here. SPCA has gotten off the 1080 bandwaggon for that reason.

BTW, I have a brick of CCI 'Deerslayer' .22LR. Will evt kill most deer even with a gut shot.
