The issue we are dealing with is primarily one of distraction, dissipated energies and an unwillingness to take on responsibility.
The government or for that matter any administrative body is operating at our behest which is to say we are the government, governments and our representatives are voted in and out and there are established and enshrined avenues for us (even as individuals) to influence the out come of current policy if we choose to take action and become involved (a democratic process of sorts) - adopting a position of entrenched and childish objection to a perceived 'position' the government may be habitually and cynically therapeutic for those who have chosen or built that out look but it results in not only a waste of their time and effort (such as it is) but is a cop out. Moaning and wining that it's "them", "they doing it all wrong", "they're out to get us" etc etc is a piss weak way to do anything and of course you don't have to take on any personal responsibility for anything at that level cause "they're spposed to fix it".
At least the fella who started this thread has the nuts to do something and that's important, he's involved, he's doing his bit - I don't need to agree with his current position within the debate to applaud and respect that. I would love to see that energy focused towards working on a solution that would free us from 1080 and I suspect he would as well.
Finding yourself in a continual position of objecting to what ever it may be no matter which side of the political spectrum you sit in is itself wearing and I have found that the best way forward is simply to do something. Something active, something positive and in a creative rather than a negative mode. It's simply easier and produces results and also may inspire those around you.
Demonstrated so apparently here - attempting to mold information to promote your own outlook is a waste of our time and energies. Do the research, understand the topic - then your input is worth while. Orwell's superb piece was a balanced criticism of both socialism and capitalism and he was perhaps ultimately reflective upon 'the human condition'.
The debate around 1080 is a passionate and emotive one, and it should be as we all care about the outcome but harnessing emotion at the expense of peer reviewed hard data ... actually as I'm writing this I've realised that it may not be all negative as it's probably one of the most transparently rediculous aspects of the ban 1080 argument that it's a fairly quick way of assessing the validity of that stance for most who 'drop in' to check it out but may not have the time or inclination to research it fully.
Since I'm now officially an old cunt I can see that there are younger generations who were not lucky enough to experience the bush and the hill in a less predated state, where bird life was significant and there's no way I can describe that deafening dawn chorus - you have to experience it - I need to do what I can to restore. it.
