    Hi all Kiwi hunters

I am a 62 year old Danish Tourist/hunter, about to set out on, what I hope to be the adventure of my life. I have never been to the southern hemisphere, and is totally unfamiliar with mountains and thick bush ( The highest point in Denmark is 180 m) My plan, so far, is to hire a campervan and explore NZ and do some hunting at the same time. I therefore hope that I can meet some NZ hunters, willing to share their knowledge and experience with a fellow hunter, or take him along on a hunt. I know from the internet that hunting parties are often flown in to various huts by helicopter. I would be very happy to go, and share the expenses, with anybody whom are going on such a trip. In general, any advice on what to do and where to hunt, will be much appreciated. I will arrive i Christchurch on march 8.

    Welcome to the forum.
Are you bringing your own rifle and how long are you going to be here ?

You have chosen a good time to be here but there will be a lot of local hunters in the bush then.
You don't want to believe too much you see on line.
Some of it makes it look like big unfit foreign guys have climbed 1000m to shoot a tahr.
    It's just not like that.
But if your expectations are realistic you can have a great time here.

    Cheers

    Hi Akaroa 1
Yes I am bringing my own rifle (Sako 308 win) I am well aware that you dont just go out and shoot a big trophy tahr. I think that my expectations are realistic, and I realise my own limitations, especially when it comes to the terrain.

    Hi Berg 243
I am not only interested in big trophy game, i will just as happy go on a rabbit hunt (have never shot a rabbit as they are only found on two small islands here in Denmark) I am bringing a Sako A7 308 win, that should be fit for most hunting, maybe a bit much for rabbits

How long are you in the country for and around which areas will you be spending most of your time?

    Edit:
If you make your way up around Napier ish @BRADS does some guiding and is VERY well priced. Can go chase some reds.

You are arriving just in time for our Big Bore shoot down in Kurow , 10-11 March. About 4 hrs from Christchurch. Come on down and shoot some big guns. On the saturday night we will head out after some wallabies as well.

Hello - I've had Danish folk stay with us before (Jesper) and we went Tahr hunting, unfortunately without sucess - we had very little time and did not have good weather which was a problem. I think Jesper also found our mountains very challenging, even though we took it easy on him. More time would have changed the whole picture

PM me, I'd be happy to try and organise something for you. I hope to be at the big bore shoot that Stug is speaking of.
