Thread: hoping to hunt in April

My wife and I are coming to Christchurch in April and wanting to hunt. We are really interested in tahr hunting, and would like to chase red stag if we have time. I've applied for my firearm permit, hopefully it goes through before the trip.

We are both experienced backcountry hunters and (fairly) fit. I have been looking into helicopter transport- my questions:1) if we hire a flight up into the mountains for tahr is there a pretty good likelihood of us finding game? 2) is there much hope of finding a public land red stag and 3) does anyone offer private land hunts without having to pay big money in trophy fees?

2. Maybe if you go to the right area, hunt hard and have some luck.

Nah, bet ya it's a Kodiak. Tahr are easy peasy, a
Good stag is something else. April is a harder time , them shaggy critters are generally up high. Always the exception tho.
