How far away was the last deer you shot???

Never met MD but he seems like a top bloke and welcoming.
he is an assets for nzhs, thank God he is not banned.

I do have a mountain rifle that will group sub moa. But I am always cogniscient that it is a tool, and practice, repitition and acceptable hunting accuracy are required to secure animals.

Someone said it earlier, its not the rifle! I've found regular dry firing practice a real help.

Have just looked at Micky Duck's two polls. They ask where is POA on body, and what was last range for deer? I cannot see a problem with either poll.

Dan, Gimp et al - there is no serious issue here. May I offer an experienced manager and veteran site member piece of advice for you - don't sweat the unimportant stuff, and don't fuss over differences of opinion - even from yours. Healthy. Its a good site - respect the differences that arise. Remember to manage with a light hand..

Yes its absolutely correct that we should all strive to get the best from our gear, and know how to do so. But if the rifle you have is the one you can afford, and it shoots 2 inch groups, then you do still have a 300 yard/meter rifle if a long shot presents. One that will allow you to do so with a couple of inches to spare all round on a red deer size animal.
Now Im in a position where I could recently go out and spend 5 grand on a rifle and scope set up that offers me incredible precision for the hunting I wish to do. The last 4 animals I have shot with it though were a boar at 30 meters, a fallow at 70, a red spiker at 50 and a chamois 2 days ago at 100. If I had my old rifle that shot 2 inch groups then they would still be dead.

I agree Tahr, Micky isn't a bad person.
But being a self confessed god botherer he doesn't show a whole lot of compassion toward some people at times. And some of his comments are quite offensive.
I would expect better standards.
And the topic of banning is very inconsistent.

Late to the party reading this thread , seems to have gone pear shape rather quickly and MD got the boot , hopefully he just got the strap and a couple days detention and he’ll be back

On dawn, red hind at 40 metre. Neck shot, down instantly. Later, two fallow at 75 metres, first one in the Neck, second one, through the head (face on), both dropped instantly. Then the hard Mahi started!

Driving home from work through a forestryblock with a empty trailer behind the truck.
Red hind and yearling run across the vehicle track and up the bank into trees above the track.
My K95 was in pieces in the back seat.
Put the rifle together, scope on and suppressor and she's still standing in the shadows 50m away.
Shot the hind in the neck.
She rolled down and the fence stopped her.
Jack knifed the trailer against the bank
Slid the deer under the fence because the bottom staples were gone
Rolled her on the trailer whole and un gutted.

Whole thing took 2 minutes

I expect that that distance has decreased quite a bit over the last few years with ballooning numbers, thermals and what-not. But really, who cares. It's a measure of nothing.

Those bottom wire staples, eh. Back in the day cyclone fencing pliers used be part of every meat hunters' kit. :)

I shot a Sika spiker from the truck once. Seen it. Get gun from back seat, load gun, wind down window and bang.

My last one, shot at 60m, was 80m from the truck when I shot it:). I had been on a decent walk around a property and got back to 20m from my wagon and there were 2 stags feeding on the bush edge. I don't often get that lucky.

a self confessed god botherer .pray tell what a persons religious or moral stances have to do with this topic .sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander .I also thought NO religion. Doesnt show a lot of compassion to some on here either ,and whilst richard craniums continue to thrive in media land Ill continue to tp come down hard on em if and when i see fit and im certainly not alone in that.

Problem is if no one chips in / comments you ain't got a forum, what makes this forum interesting is learning about others opinions. MD has been great value, an asset to this forum.

Micky claims to follow a certain "culture",and I have no issue with that.
Usually people who follow that "culture" don't climb in to conversations with abuse and bad language. Micky has been inclined to do so.
I'm actually a bit surprised he hasn't had a tune up before now.
And I reckon when he gets back there'll be a few if us in for a lashing haha.

Forums are made up of widely diverse individuals . If they werent, then Forums would simply be circle jerks.

Differing opinions make for interesting discussions. Thats why we are here . We dont have to agree with everyone else but everyone else is entitled to their opinion.

Theres been a whole lot of good contributors who find themselves no longer here for various reasons , and the Forum is the loser in that.

If you are running a forum you cant win. One lot will get upset because there is too much moderation. Another lot will get upset because you didnt do anything and they dont enjoy the experience of seeing an argument, or being called a name.

Someone else will stay in the rules, technically, but be very good at passive aggressive insinuation that really ranks people up. You will give them a "holiday" and thier friends will get upset at the unfairness. Others will just ruin threads by talking shit thats not within the flow of discussion.

I got a holiday a month back for something I dont feel was necessarily a correct interpretation of what my intent was. So be it. No ones perfect and its not the first forced break Ive been given on forums. Even ones I moderated. Hell I banned myself for a while.:D
Micky will be back. He wont change. Like the rest of us he has his nature and that brings good and bad depending on how you see things. If you have an issue with something someones said, ask a mod and let them decide. They are paid a fortune to do the job. make them work.:P;)

I'm not a good forum contributor and only post if I have to
just incase I might say something stupid and time but I try help other when or where I can.

Other forum is dying because lack of post (good/bad) and feel like a circle of mates forum only,
but member like MD & others (quite a few of them) are making us new member feel welcome and want to contribute,
his input weather good/bad is better than no input.

Yes, I only seeing this "MD thing" through a very very small window
I'm sure there is lot more to it and complicated for admin /moderator.
