How many people hunt Tongariro National Park

Just looking through the DOC website and should be a few nice spots to go for a wander i was thinking.

Many people make it a regular spot?

    Cheers

I use to hunt there quite a bit when I lived in the north island. Hunted the open areas around the bush edges. Saw lots of deer, but this was before I had a range finder and a long range rifle. I'll flick you a pm.

Ring doc whakapapa and ask for Malc the blue duck manager for reliable information.

Only thing I'll pass on mate is find vantage spots and get good glasses. There are a heap of deer in there in spots.

I hunt the south east portion of the park mostly. Gives a good range of open to close hunting conditions without having to climb to high from your start point. Find you a good possie and glass it up, weather is a bit hit and miss at the moment but they are moving around especially when that sun finally shows it self. I have only once come across another hunter where I go so seems to be pretty low key.

    Cheers shooter
Have a couple of spots pointed out to look at.
Like the idea of being able to start high and not head uphill for breakfast
Plus new areas are fun to explore

I would like to go in there this weekend, ive never been in there before. hoping to get myself a Christmas deer since the wife is overseas
Planning to go in the northern area somewhere and just have a go at the bush edges etc and see how i go, maybe enter on SH48 and see where i can go from there.
