Everything I wear except for my puffer Jacket I got at an Op Shop, random combination of outdoors gear. Getting your layering system correct is far more important (for your safety) than the pattern or colour of the clothing.

I think if you’re bush hunting, in general it makes little difference.
But big open country I think it does help you blend in.
But I am 100% certain; give a good hunter a worn out 303, dress him in pink tights and a silver sequin top, he’ll consistently get more deer than an average hunter with his full Kuiu camo setup and a 1/4 MOA Euro rifle. (Me)
Worth a read with regard to what deer see.

An experiance I had some years ago made me think. My mates had all gone for an evening hunt in another direction. I got back from my hunt before them. Tahr hunting shelter hollow area. Just on last light I spotted them coming down a face half a k away. Or rather I spotted two of the three. All were wearing swazi jackets. two were wearing camoflage ones, the other was wearing the tussock brown one. The camo had just turned to dark black and you could see distinctly from that distance in low light, sharp edged black silhouettes moving down the face.
The lighter coloured plain jacket was invisible.
We choose our clothing generally going off of what we see in daytime in a store or from adverts. But probably half of our hunting is evening and morning at low light. Id suggest most camo on the market is too dark for those hours.
An older bush hunter I know and respect fairly well swears by three things as far as camo: Any blaze colour is just hi-vis greyscale to a deer, and its a blob that isn't part of the natural surroundings. Any skin showing is going to blow a stalk, particularly hands and face. And most camo designs lack the contrast required to blend in with the background so you just look like a blob anyway. His current thinking is that the stoney creek tuatara is too dark but the alpine is OK, hunters element pattern seems to work best and has put him within feet of deer with the wind right, and army DPM/flecktarn is again too dark. He recently tried wearing blaze camo patterns of both orange and blue and had deer bust off him for the first time in years.
Mind you, if you're rubbish at finding deer in the bush and sneaking in on them, does camo help or hinder your efforts?
Just wear whatever you want to as long as it does the job.
Perhaps in the future technology will revolutionise everything camo wise.
Gillie suits used consistently.....?
Any deer farmer / hunter use then on a consistent basis.
remember the old saying "to shoot dear ,think like a deer"blend into the landscape -have wind in your facer ,be aware of unusual noise . above all and most important -the land is an animals natural environment ,its attuned to it and its varietal foibles .human bloody beings crashing about like oversexed bulldozers stick out like a big boars bollix. same goes for chamois ,tahr ducks geese they possess binocular eyesight -must do ever seen one at specsavers?????.despite our fancy claims re being top of the heap seems its a concept fraught with holes!
Less movement seen the better.

I you want to get an odd look from a deer, try waving or talking to them from a tree stand at 30m.
They don't seem to be able to figure you are a threat in a tree and you can just see their brain going tik, tik.
Just one of the silly things this old fella has done.
When I was 16 and a member of the Wellington NZDA my Father and I went on a club hunt with who I now consider to be the biggest fucking idiot I've ever hunted with "Chris Dummer" and ironic name if I've ever heard one. Night prior we had discussed where everyone would be hunting and as I was the youngest I got the first pick- we caught him hunting in the area where I had picked the next morning and his excuse was that there wasn't anything where he decided to go, as is that's a shit excuse but on top of that it was still too early for him to have even tried his area..... it was obvious he just decided he was going to ignore the plan from the get go.
My Dad wrote an email to the president of the NZDA saying he wasn't safe and it was asking for trouble, we left the NZDA and about a year later he ended up shooting a guy in the head who was wearing a blaze orange beanie- one of the reasons I refuse to wear blaze orange or hunt with idiots.....you can't fix stupid.
One thing is certainly true about camo, you're a lot safer from an idiot with a gun if they can't see you.
I will continue to wear some camo- why - I need every small advantage I can get yuk yuk
I wear it, weather it makes any difference or not youll have to ask the animals. Mines just whatever I come across second hand, not into latest fashons etc. Flecktarn seems to blend well in a lot of the areas I go into and a ridgeline soft raincoat that leans towards the browns seems to blend well as well from looking at pics the wife takes when we are out
I have 2x" ghillie" suitswhich Ive really only used for goose shooting on feed paddocks .sitting down in front of a hedge or in a dryditch oftern provides some degree of success .tried it in the maimai -often more hassle than its worth .no mates gundogs did not try to cock a leg on my arm!again as ive said previously its a personal choice .me probably cause of my 13yr TF military career in the infantrygave me a fairly good grounding in the art.
Wear what you want. I personally feel like a bit of a tool camo head to toe but it is usually whatever I grab first or what's clean
i feel more of a tool when I forget my mag or bolt
Or remember the mag and bolt but no rounds
Camo is all good. In town or the bush.
In town follow the 1 half rule. Top or bottom camo, just not both.
In the bush. It's OK but avoid wearing the same camo pattern Top and bottom. Uncool.
Hope this helps.
Saw a guy at the cafe the other day; high viz orange shirt and camo pants. Make your mind up whether you want to be seen or not ... :D
Reminds me, need to get the good camo jacket out for date night tonight
Olive drab is a natural camo in itself.
And as such all of my deer gear is olive drab with the exception of my bright blue SC beanie.
If you wanted to save some money one way to look at it is: if you hunt deer, ducks and also trout fish by all means buying one set of camo clothes would make sense to save on money.
But for just deer stuff I honestly wouldn't bother.
You can never have too much Camo Gear mate.
Look here at my most recent Camo purchase. I've lured many an animal in using this Mouse! :)

I wear cammo only because its my hunting clothes and I can tell them apart from my normal clothes when I grab something to go hunting in. I don't think I look any better or worse with it on.
I guess if it helps not being seen by animals then thats a bonus but not the whole reason I wear it.
I don't think people are idiots for wearing it and I don't hold it against anyone who doesn't wear it, its an individual choice.
Just as long as someone doesn't wear white clothing or white gumboots, thats a big no no.
Camo trousers is just my normal weekend cloths, always has been I just wear it because the ex mil stuff is hard wearing and it saves me buying clothes all the time.
my camo in the early 70's .[ATTACH]235842 i remember leaving a nzda do in invercargill one friday night about 1am headed up to knobs flat eglinton shot a deer in the morning both in our suits .
