Evening all,
Came across a mob of 10 deer happily feeding on the weekend and reduced the number by one. How soon would those of you with more experience than I return to the spot for a crack at the others? Are the deer likely to skip that feeding spot now for a day/week/month?

We shot two spikers on west coast river flat... twenty yards away was one of their mates who had been shot only days earlier. Depends on how much pressure they have been getting but if in mob of ten...can't be much.
Need more details about where it was to be able to give a comprehensive answer, grid ref and good places to stay when in Southland should do it.
they will be back the next day,tucker is obviously good and if they're hungry they won't be able to stay away,deer dont seem to care about dead mates,iv left carcasses gutted and hanging on fences to pick up next morning and deer have come back out over night and graze around the carcass till morning.they might not return straight away if they physically sway in spot x area.
Dannyb had story recently where he shot deer at range,after it had been recovered another deer in same spot lol,so yeah it's definitely a thing at times.
Thanks guys, good to know you don’t have to back off to let the spot refresh. I am still inside my first year of hunting so appreciate the wisdom you regulars share on the forum to help us newbie’s out! I will get back out there at the next chance and see if I can lower the group size some more.
As above, they may move off, or into cover, but likely won't go far. On my last hunt recently we got to camp one evening and glassed two deer on the face across from us. Next morning both were found feeding no more than 10-20m from the previous night. My brother shot one of them. On the way over to retrieve it we came across a young 7pter still happily feeding. Next morning in the same spot we'd shot the one the previous day several more were out feeding, and I ended up shooting a young meat fallow only just further up the hill.
On one occasion about a year ago we had one animal come casually sauntering across a clearing about one minute after we just dropped two spikers on the same clearing.
Would all species react in much the same way?
In my time I have had many spot X's, now days it's probably only two and they produce every time, contributing factors like numbers of animal's food and shelter are all relevant.
if you have that spot all to yourself just give it a couple of days as others have said if there is good feed there they will be back the only problem usually when under pressure its midnight lolQuote:

Much the same info as above. Just keep going back. Perhaps in a short while they may have or will moved on naturally?
Read on here. Keep a written diary note book of where you go, animals seen, time of the year etc.
Next year perhaps in the same place, same time you may repeat the same experience?
I have seen dannyb shoot 2 deer on the same slip in one weekend. Well actually I didn't see the first one but another forum member did.
Last deer I shot on public, we were gutting it and another came feeding back out onto the clearing.
Update: Returned to spot x each of the past 2 weekends. Previous weekend nothing about, last weekend dropped another hind. Group now down to 8!
