    Hows the hunting in Hamilton?

    Hey guys.

I have recently have been offered a promotion at work which would involve moving my family from Ashburton to Hamilton. Weighing up all my options before i make the final call on weather I take it or not. Just interested to hear from people in the know what the hunting is like in the Hamilton area and what is there in the way of a shooting range? I understand that of course it all comes down to getting out there and doing it but obviously there is a few species down my way that i wouldn't be able to see up there. Have been told the hunting in regions a few hours drive from Hamilton is good for deer and goats, just interested to hear how it is in the immediate Hamilton area.

    Cheers

Have you lowered your IQ to a sufficient level? Just drink Tui or Waikato to train yourself up.
It will get to 2 digits in no time😆

Compared to what you've got on your doorstep, like chalk and cheese...

Though I do remember chasing the odd bushpig in the Hillcrest Tavern carpark during Uni days,
A warm car bonnet always made for a quick bail.

Pureora and kaimais is about the best you will get in the waikato there is a couple of fallow spots in the waikato but they are ballot blocks and everytime I ask for a ballot application I never get sent one so I don't bother with chasing that anymore. Failing that Clements mill road in the kaimanawas is always worth a look if you don't mind all the other hunters that go up there.

A two hour drive max should get you to spots round Kawhia, Waitomo, PioPio, etc that can be productive admittedly mostly on private land but theres always a degree of uncertainty. For pigs and goats most guys are happy enough. The bush hunting is a bit different to what you probably are used to but we all like a challenge don't we
