    A HUNT TURNS TO CUSTARD

We are getting a early spring in canterbury so I headed out for a wee look to see whats about. Only had a afternoon so headed off into ashley forest to hunt a warm face thats been good to me in the past . Got walking about 1 pm , perfect conditions a cross wind so could hunt across the face there and back . Was going to use this trip as to see how my dog was going to go on deer after the bird season . I got onto heaps of fresh pig sign , which dog was keen but keept him in which was good. The area looked real good for a deer and soon was onto fresh marks of a spiker or smaller stag. As we hunted it got real thick ant the dog got a whif of him . As this is the first Deer for the dog and me in thick bush I wasnt sure what to do. Beau (dog) was sort of semi pointing , still but his head and nose was moving . It was too thick to see anything so I would try and out flank this deer ,WRONG
As beau looked intent on holding on the scent I tryed to get a look . The deer must have broke out with beau in toe .

In the time I had worked this out It was too late gooooooone . What f@#k up How did this happen or more the point why did I let this happen.
I now had 1.5hr to get back to the truck before its dark which had taken 2.5 hrs . So had to leave in the hope he wll back track so draged my swannie behind me to give him a better chance to find his way back . When I got back to the truck there was a note saying I had been locked in
. The ashley forest rally was starting on saturday morning . This was turnig pear shaped quickly . I had no cell phone cover , its dark , no dog , no way out . So was off to get coverage , bugger my mrs got her phone off , got hold of sercurity who locked me in , he was to let me out at 7.30 am . I had 12 hrs to find my dog or he will probably get run over by a rally car. Full moon was the only thing in favour . 10 pm found him was back tracking his way home , what a relief . Now had an uncomfortable cold sleep ahead . Three am was awake and seen lights in the forest , was the police looking for me . My mrs had called them at 1am , her phone had been off and the message I had left was delivered at 2am WTF. She rung them straight away but they where happy to come and let me out , as it was not my falt id been locked in as some dick head had taken the signs down.
So home at 4.30 am . Now ive got a majour issue with Beau on deer ! So If this doesnt get picked up by the dog experts with what to do next I will put some thing in dog section . Munsey
