Hmmm, yeah. Ive been having a bit of a look through the 'lite' bits and it looks pretty good.
I think ill buy the NI one at some stage, but am a bit concerned that it has crashed 3 times already.
Will play a bit more and see how she goes.

Just crashed while I tried to download it, but it's on s old phone that has almost no storage left and is running slow, and is only normally used as a baby monitor video device so I'll try it again when I get my fixed/replaced normal ph back.

Was talking to the guy thats running it (tim), he said they have been having a few problems with iPhone 4's. That what I've got. He said there looking into it and asked for some feed back as to when it crashes. He sounds like a pretty good guy, and was keen to find a solution.

I suspect its like any app, the better phone or tablet the better it performs.

I had a play last night, seemed to run alright on the I phone 5, disappointing to see no local areas, nothing in the Ruahines at all even on the brought maps.

I bought the canterbury version and had a wee look over it. Then i was in the library the other day looking at the spot x books and i realised that just about all of the plotted spots are pretty much taken directly from spot x - even down to copying the "details" about access and what not word for word. Made me wonder whether its set up by the same organisation or what? Either way, not much use if youve got the book.

I see where they are going with this app, it seems to rely on people populating the maps with their own spots which I don't think many people would be too keen to do for the world to see (and hunt)

Head into the library and check out their version first. That'll give you an idea as to whether theres hunting spots you didnt know about.
