    hunter alert

A mate of mine has invented a little gadget that you turn on when you go hunting and everyone in your party has one.
When you head away hunting the units will give a low beep if a member of your party has is within a hundred meters of you alerting you that someone is close.
They will be aimed at hunts course students and new hunting groups and a possibility for hire at hellicopter sights.
They will be reasonably priced and about the size smaller than a packet of cigarets.
They are not the b all and end all to stopping shooting accidents.
They will be at this years sika show.
I would be interested on what hunters have to say about such a unit.

Sounds like a bloody good gadget but the problem I see is that if there is a hunter from another party within 100 of you, you won't know if he does not carry the same gadget, but if the caught on yes it would be a good safety measure for all hunters to own one.

    Yes thats a problem .
Will be interesting to see if they take off.
Would be good on private blocks or as a party thing .
A good thing for the younger generation and us older buggers to get into and promote

Great idea. Would be good to see it work.
The only time in my life I have run into other hunters on the hill is when I have gone somewhere new for the first time or in the North Island. We are lucky on the coast in that respect.

The new game callers out these days are so realistic could work well with these also.
I get nervous in heavily hunted areas when a stag roars , cant pick the callers all the time mainly the sika callers

I am suprised that someone hasn't come up with a bracket that attaches to the chest so one can carry a laptop into the bush...there is that much stuff to carry now days, one would have to dump the deer to get all the gadgets home.

I can see its place for sure. But if a party with them is hunting public land it could just maybe lull them into a false sense of security that no hunters are in the area.
"Hunting and fishing" fucking over licenced firearms owners since ages ago.

May well become another safety item along the lines of PLB's. Optional, but may just save yours or someones elses life.
I know of a few occasions where we have planned a hunt when leaving the hut then had a change at some stage of the day.
If they go into production at an affordable cost then I would be interested. May be the future of hunting.
A good feature would be a low battery alert

well i know for a fact I'd buy one for hunting on Public land, then for a fact I'd know full well that there are other humans in the area. This is the sort of device that should be strongly encouraged by the NZDA...

    That's a good point .
Hoping that they take off and become popular so the more people that have them the better.

My gps picks up and shows my hunting buddies location (rhino). But I'm not really that concerned about who I hunt with its the others. How do I ensure they are using the same system as I?
