Return trip from melbourne is nearly a grand, it's been a while since I've flown in with a helicopter so perhaps one of the other chaps might be more enlightened on the subject. Deer and chamois in North West land, say close to Ahaura or into the Wanganui River, that has merit as the big three are in there. There is also head of Mikonui, that's reasonably close to hokitika.
Ps for you more enlightened chaps, they've changed the name of wanganui city to whanganui but is the wanganui river in west land still wanganui river. Wouldn't want to end up getting dropped off in God knows where part of the country just by missing out one letter.
The WANGANUI river near Hari Hari on the west coast is still Wanganui, the city and river in the North Island are both WHANGANUI.
