OK now that someone has copy and paste the article - how do you see this applying to the NZ context? The peculiarity of corner crossing is fairly specific to the Western US chequerboard sectioning of land and the allocation of a certain amount of that as public land with no provision for access.

I'd say it's more about where things are going now.
Not the technicality of trying to access public land as such. Rather the mega rich buying up the prime private big land blocks and cashing in on the public land. And litigation around it.
As in it's a trend that's just going to continue to grow from the base we're at now.
