Grew up hunting Rotoehu, once you work it out your success will increase, it gets less pressure, it used to get bugger all compared to now.
Kroa will be getting smashed by hordes of dogs, trucks with lift kits and snorkels and the entire generation of people who have never hunted dogs without tracking gear..find a place you have to walk to access. I'm not sure it will ever be devoid of hunters. I was talking to a guy for work I saw his dog box and said pines open this weekend aye..he said, they never close.
That said I've seen more than a few while chasing pigs
Hunted around Kaiangaroa and Whirinaki since the early 70's, and Rotoehu since 79. Shot plenty of deer over the years but not hunting there as much these days. Lot more pig hunters about than in the earlier years. Still worth a look though.
cheers yea I'll leave it for pig hunters for now . but opens up more options for a look. rotoehu pretty close for me looking forward to have a look at some stage im a Bush hunter through an through so bit different for me n dog
Are you new to the area 300?
I'm in Papamoa now but family out Otamarakau still so could do a mission one day if your keen.
If looking Rotoehu I think the native at the lake end of the forest is worth a look, dont know if that becomes DOC or not, plenty of wobblies to lift a meal from if not succesful on a bigger animal.
yep don't forget it got 1080 September last year though too hole area where porters road 4x4 track goes through and all other doc land out there I Beleave.. done a bit out there years ago plenty deer around bloody thicker than kaimai in places use to get a hammering by spot light. yea I forget about wallabies be good to get my son on one
the 1080 took its toll, native is quite barren now
