A few decades ago I had to loose abit of weight to run 12ks,yes I was into abit of running.2 months before the run i losted a kg/week,just lease food and no high cal food.Got my weight down to 17stone=108kg.Ran the 12ks in 52 minutes,it bloody near killed me but I done it.
Greetings @ SpeightsDrinker,
Weight has been a constant battle for me for almost all of my life. As an adult my weight has ranged from 93kg to 138 kg partly due to an inside job for almost all of my career. Currently it is around 103kg. At 75 yo that is probably a good weight for me. The trick is to never give up. Some days you will win and other days the weight will. It is just the way we are.
Regards Grandpamac.
It’s cool to see some keen guys talk openly about weight - so often all you see is fit men on social media and I was feeling like the odd one out being a larger guy into hunting. It’s taken me along time to realise the relationship between food, exercise, drinking, smoking and overall health.
I was 107kg when I was at my most naughty 10 years ago. Diabetes got me down to 90 and now I hover around that.
Fitness has always been good but about a year ago I started to suspect something was going on with the old bod. Had to push myself harder to do the same stuff.
At a bit of a low eb at the moment. Waiting for an appointment before Christmas for a look up my pipes and probably stents. Have had one rushed trip to hospital. 76 so it's a bit like repairs and maintenance to an old car.
Still hunting but taking it quietly and now make sure someone comes with me for the ride and is contactable on the radio when we hunt. Pills make sure I don't over heat my engine.
Ive got good hunting mates, and a wife who understands that I don t care if I die in the hills. Thats a blessing.
It's not the end. Just a new chapter.
Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing, and right-doing, there is a field. I will meet you there.

An audiobook that I found helpful called healthy as fuck, only downside is that it's written for woman which I didn't realize until after buying it, however it did give me a few laughs!
The main thing I found good about it was it's not a diet nook, cos they don't work. The main message is to change your eating habits rather than going on a diet.
A very realistic look at health and fitness, including the fact that to live the life you want you might settle for being a couple of kgs heavier than you want so your lifestyle can stay how you want it.
Been hitting the rowing machine lately.
Just got a 30 minute pb today. 7547
Nice effort, 2.5kms every 10 minutes for 40 minutes was @Speargrass fitness test back in the day. A good benchmark it is too!

There is a videos series from chase & gather targeted at hunters that was quite good. I've done it a few times now before the big trips.
If anyone's interested

I feel this thread at the moment - I’m getting into hunting but need to up my fitness. I was working in a warehouse being very active and hanging around 83kg, then I tripped over and had a year off with concussion, now I’m working to get back to 83kg and get out in nature more, turns out that’s a happy place of mine. It’s a nice thread, tells me I’m not alone in this journey.

Kiwi maverick, if your in a warehouse doing lots of walking, lifting, squats to low racks etc, you fitness will come back stronger. But if a shiny tail in the office, better find a gymnasium, sandshoes and a pack to carry around at night.
