Hunting Ideas - For Sunday to Wednesday.

HI Guys its been a while since I have been on the forum. A mate and myself are looking at coming down to central north island for a few days hunting. Am looking for a few ideas have only hunted the national park area and now have two deer to my name but looking to try out a new area.

Would greatly accept help or if anyone is keen to come alone and be a guide that would be great. It this stage we are thinking a walk up the Waipakahi Valley. ?

We are looking at walking in early on Sunday, leave whangarei are midnight. Camping Sunday, Monday and Tuesday night and then walking out Wednesday after morning hunt and the driving back to Whangarei and getting home around midnight. We both have leave passes from the wifes and are keen both in our late 40's.

    Cheers

    John

I cant offer much, apart from saying that it is aparently real busy up that way right now. May be worth considering waiting till schools and unis have gone back.
Heard of spotlighters working up there recently as well.

Hi, you can go up Urchin track and back down.cross the river and go a bit upstream and you will find and old track that will take you up on the opposite face. Cunning sikas to hunt around there if there are any left. I have heard of a group of jafas spotlighting the valley every spring/ summers.
There used to be red deers , but they got hammered over the last few years and you had to go further south to get to them during the roar. I have not been back that way for the last two years, maybe somebody else who hunts that place more frequently could give you more reliable info?

Steep with very loose metal and can be rutted after Christmas traffic. But otherwise good Pengy
