    Hunting the Mamaku's

Who else on here is hunting the Mamaku's (SH5 area)
think I heard more human roaring in there yesterday morning than I did actual stags
A bit unnerving at times but that's a public land issue at this time of year I guess.

I was thinking of having a look there this weekend but from what you've said I may give it a miss for a month or so.

It doesn't matter whether it is private land or public land there will be hunters (poachers) on it, just at this time of year the hunter/poacher will be vocal letting everyone know of their presence.

I know that it doesnt scare stags as have done it often enough and had conversation continue with stag...have also had humans reply in kind.... sort of a long range sound off resulting in both parties heading off in different directions chuckling. not a nice feeling when someone else comes in on your roars.

Even worse is when that 'stag' out to your left/right discharges a firearm at the stag you are both sneaking up on.
