    Hunting in NZ

My brother and I have booked flights to NZ next year for a hunting trip. I spoke to DOC about hunting in the franz Josef area and I think it's all good. Does anyone know of any laws or other things I should know about going over? Just wanna make sure I have everything sorted.
    Cheers,
    Jack

Will you be taking your firearms on the flight?

If you scroll down the bottom of this page you can apply for a temporary firearms license

Here's where you can get a DOC permit

    All the best.

As you can see Jackp, everything is a bit of a rigmarole and very restrictive.

I think that was sarcasm from GM there Jack, just the 2 bits of paper filled out on line and you are good to go pretty much anywhere on the public, unlike Oz. There's some big country over here so be very careful in the big stuff, especially if it's your first time over here.............................As they said to Dorothy, "Your not in Kansas/Aussie any more!"

It doesn't bother me bulltahr, but yeh I came over for my first hunt this year for sika and loved the place so we want to make it an annual thing. My brother and I would ideally love to have a local with us but we don't really know anyone yet so we figure we'll just wing it. We're both young but we spend a Lot of time in the bush here. We are making sure we have gps and emergency beacons. So hopefully everything will run smooth. Our biggest worry is we hear there's a fair few hunting accidents so we're making sure to overload with fluro.
Still trying to figure out where to go but along the west coast somewhere.
    Cheers mate,
    Jack

Yes, definitely sarcasm on my part. It is so easy it's ridiculous; unusual for government departments not to want you to jump through hoops. Most of the hunting accidents seem to be members of their own hunting parties, often when they split up to approach a spot where they saw an animal from different directions.
