Thread: Hunting permits

with the introduction of the DOC permit site and the ease to renew permits I was wondering how many of you hunt public land with a current permit? Do even bother to get a permit?

Yip get one for entire country once every 4 months.

Why wouldn't you get a permit when its that easy?

Though I have to admit you just reminded me to check mine, turns out it had expired so have now renewed it! Hadn't realised they were only 4 months now.

never ever bother, not much they can do if you are confronted by a DOC ranger, but take your name, just give them a false name

I can assure you that judges frown on that sort of shit, especially where firearms are involved.

when have you ever heard of any body been taken to court for not having a permit, never happen in the 13yrs I work for Doc

The offence would change from not having a permit to giving false information...a real dumb thing to do when carrying a firearm

You gota be kidding Eve. Just because Doc hasnt taken anyone to court dosnt mean that they wont. I havent personally meet a Ranger while in the bush but i have mates that have. Basiclly your a poucher if you dont have one. Hunters on public land also leave themselves wide open if the cause a fire, get lost or heaven forbid shoot someone. For the 5mins on a computer you have to be plain dumb if you dont get one.

Doc have an online permit application process, it enables everyone to enjoy our forests and reserves responsibly.

I always have a current permit for the entire North Island. So easy to get it and print it these days compared to years ago. Hunting on DoC land without one is illegal. Doing so is just dumb arsed.

I'm happy to get my permit on line. I make a point of setting up the expiry date on my ph so I don't forget to renew it. The frustration is obtaining clear boundary mapping...

I always print out a permit. Never been asked to see it, but it is so easy to get - why not?
