    Hunting in Taranaki

Have just upgraded the old enfield 303 and have got a few days off in a couple of week. Was trying to track down some good spots to camp and hunt for goats etc in Taranaki. Have got the latest spot x book and was thinking about going for a walk into Waitaanga and camping at the Te Rerepahupahu falls, has anyone hunted this area? If so any good?

Can anyone recommend some other good spots within in Taranaki? day trips or overnighters etc.

Was also thinking about heading further north and go to Pureora. Anyone hunted there lately?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Cheers guys

I was in Pureora a few weeks back. Stayed close to the big campground PiroPiro flats.
We got on to one not to far from there, played cat and mouse over the next hour or so. Next morning my mate had a shot at a nice stag in velvet but missed. So there in there.
Only thing though is there was next to no sign at all. No poo, prints etc, so I'm guessing there isn't many around there atm.

    Thats about all I know.

There is lots of doc blocks around all my farming friends have moved out of Taranaki so only hunt on doc land now. We have been to the Moki block a lot. I think there is also another block on Kiwi road. Starting to go south more, inland from eltham / patea and wanganui after deer. Also been out whangamomona ways. Alot of the blocks are steep and thick bush and most don't have roadside access. I dont think I have been to that block mentioned sorry. I have also been meaning for a while to go to the doc office and talk to their hunters as they will be able to point you in a good direction
