    Hunting Wild Cats

Just spotted a wild cat in the orchard and i don't like them.....

How widespread are they and who has seen them in odd places, i see them in the Kawekas about once every three years.

Looks tidy for a 708. We got a possum recently and was held together by a bit of skin

There are shitloads of them in rabbit country i.e. the dryer parts of canterbuty that back onto hills or the Mackenzie. I have always wanted to do proper preaditor hunting like the yanks do (rabbit distress call and a moving lure\bait) and wild cats are the only species we have.

Used my M24 light and a hand held laser down in Alexandra over Easter on a feral cat. Thing was mesmerised, then it had a lie down and a big sleep.

Thats getting too close i reckon, a long range approach has its merits, these things can scratch and bite, leaving terrible wounds to arms, legs, heart and wallet.

Dairy farms can be a magnet for wild cats. Checking the springers (calving cows) at night/early morning with a spotlight I often see a few eating after birth. They sneak off when I arrive, but a shine around of the spotlight as leave usually reveals these sets of eyes watching me from a distance. Every now and then I bring the .17hmr with me and snot a few
If my work annoys me, I cull them
